s3e05: Review

At The Planet, Alice has somehow persuaded Helena to join in with the bisexual speed dating, despite protesting 'But I'm not bisexual'. Helena told her speed date that she was looking for: "Someone who's original, who has vision. You know, a clear point of view... creative integrity, courage, you know someone who's willing to take a risk, someone who's original and who has vision, you know a clear point of view." That sounds to me like she was describing Dylan, which proves that Helena is already smitten with Dylan.

My favourite scene in this episode is the coitus interruptus featuring Dylan (Alexandra Hedison) & Helena (Rachel Shelley). Helena left the bisexual speed dating early to go to Dylan's, and who could blame her. I've re-watched this scene and the even hotter scene in the next episode quite a few times (okay I've lost count of the number of times, but let's just say it's in double figures by now). Both Rachel and Alexandra are amazing in their scenes together. It's particularly good to see Helena's layers being continually revealed in season 3, compared to season 2 where we didn't get to see too much beyond the manipulative rich bitch. I'm particularly pleased for Rachel; having got the chance to talk with her at The L Event back in November, where I discovered what a wonderfully charming, warm and funny person she is. Again she gets to be funny in this episode; in the scene at The Planet when Bette is talking about Tina's lumpectomy and tells everyone 'You can't even see the scar'. Helena replies 'No, no, you can't.' Then after a disapproving look from Bette she adds, 'I mean I didn't even know that she'd had one.' LOL! Yes, it's hard to forget how intimately she got to know Tina's breasts in season 2.

I didn't know much about Alexandra Hedison before, besides the Ellen connection and from photos I'd seen it was hard to miss the fact that she's gorgeous. I've never seen her acting before but I have to say that now I have I'm truly impressed. In just a few short scenes she has shown that she's a great actress portraying a supposedly str8 woman's confusion and denial of her attraction to another woman in a truly believable manner. I can't wait to see how the story unfolds and I'm so glad that she's in 10 episodes this season. No wonder that Rachel said how much she enjoyed working with Alexandra. They really feed off each other, not quite literally yet but give them time. Wink
